Happy 8th Birthday Sophie!

Today my baby girl turned 8 years old.  She acts so grown up.  We celebrated her birthday on Sunday.  I love her smile in these pictures.  It turned out great to have a birthday so soon after returning home from China with a little brother because lately it has been a lot about Sawyer and not so much Sophie.  She decided she wanted to have her nails painted for her birthday so we did this before lunch at Dynasty and cake and ice cream at home.  She loved the attention.

Some one enjoyed the blue cake!!!

Sophie getting her pedicure.  She wanted to soak her feet and get the designs on her thumbs and big toes.
A day all about her made a happy girl!

Restful Day

Today was a restful day.  Rick and Sophie went to the movies to see Despicable Me 2 and Sawyer and I stayed home.  While we were having lunch Sawyer looked at me and pointed to himself and said Lin Lin.  It was as if he were saying call me Lin Lin.  I felt bad for him.  I can not imagine what he must be thinking.

I have been laying down for nap time with Sawyer and I think I am enjoying naps a little too much.

Sophie and Rick enjoyed the movie.  Rick came in and said he needed to watch the first one.

After bath time, Sawyer noticed a picture of Harmony and him that I have on his mirror in his room.  He was very happy to see the picture.  He pointed at it and said Lin Lin and Mama.  I think that was very sweet.  Harmony, the translator for Swallows Nest, loves Lin Lin very much.  She had wanted to adopt him too but was not allowed to.

Sawyer is calling everyone Mama when he is wanting their attention.  I noticed when we visited the foster home that he called all the workers Mama.  So we have a little work to do to get him to realize that I am the Mama.  Sophie will tell him she is not Mama, she is Jie Jie (big sister in Chinese) and Rick says I'm not Mama, I'm Daddy.

Here is Sawyer in his UnderRoo's (that's what we called them when I was little).  My brother and I use to wear them.  I haven't found any for Sophie, yet...

He has skeeter bites on his legs.

Settling In

We are settling in to our new family life, although it's not quite what it will normally be.  We are able to avoid the rushing around in the mornings and in the evenings.  Spending all day together every day is not the norm for us either.

Sawyer is sleeping well and in his own bed.  I do lay down on the trundle bed that is pulled out more than half way in case he were to roll out of bed during the night.  Once he is asleep and if I haven't fallen asleep, I will leave his room.  He has woken up a few times during the night and goes back to sleep with a little pat or hand holding.

Yesterday, I took Sawyer to his first pediatric appointment.  He was checked over pretty well and Dr. Rice said that he looks like he was well cared for, thank you Swallows Nest!  We will see the pediatric cardiologist next Wednesday.  He needs to see an ophthalmologist and be evaluated by PT and OT to see where he is and what we need to work on.  He will need to have blood work done in the next couple of weeks (I am not looking forward to that).

Sophie is loving taking care of him.  We have to remind her that we are the parents and we do not need to be told how to do things for him.  She thinks she knows what he likes and wants, which she uses to aggravate him sometimes.

We left and returned home a couple of times yesterday and Sawyer would go get in the Barbie Jeep.  He sits in the passenger side and waits for his driver.  He has enjoyed his sister driving him around and waves at us frequently as he passes us by.

Rick laughed this morning talking about Sawyer waving at us so much.  He said Sawyer wouldn't fit in in Hong Kong.  Felicia use to make fun of me because I would wave at people a lot.  She said they never waved at anyone in Hong Kong.  So I guess he gets this from me ;).
